OnePlus One Finally Gets A Launch Date; To Officially Launch on April 23rd 2014

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

Many people are waiting to see what OnePlus has to offer in way of their first flagship device. Though we have specs, little has been found about price, launch and release date. However recently, OnePlus has announced exactly when we will be properly introduced to their “baby” the OnePlus One.

As far as specs go, we do have some ideas as to what we will be getting, though the juiciest part of this device may not be the specs, but rather the software. As you may know, the software has been designed by CyanogenMod. As such, it is very exciting to see what the have in mind for the future users of the OnePlus One. What we do know is that the OnePlus One will have a SnapDragon 801 chip inside, hidden by the 5.5-inch display. What may prove to be the sexiest part of the design is that the 5.5-inch display, though bigger than the display on the Galaxy S5, the device itself is smaller.

Besides the design, the device is going to have a 3,100 mAh battery powering it all and a 13 megapixel camera with some interesting features in itself. Reports suggest that the camera has a Sony Exmor IMX 214 sensor and an f/2.0 lens. This could prove to be a very admirable competitor in the smart phone camera arena. Now that we have gotten the suggested specs out-of-the-way, let’s talk about when exactly we will be introduced to this bad boy.

OnePlus announced that on April 23rd 2014, we will be introduced to the OnePlus One. Their announcement claims that they are taking a different approach to the smart phone. OnePlus makes comments like, “Forget gimmicks and bloat.” continuing to put the design of the new device ahead of anything else. Making sure that, “…in the end, it’s the user that benefits.” So, we will continue to wait, as other OEM’s are making available their newest flagship devices. Hoping all the while that the OnePlus One is worth the wait.

What about you, let us know just how interested you are in the OnePlus One. Also, is this a device you will be waiting for, or will you snatch up a different flagship, and wait for others to review the first flagship device from OnePlus?

It’s Official, The Nokia X is a Hit as it sells out in Under 4 Minutes in China

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

Nokia X 8

We had already heard that Nokia was seeing some pretty crazy numbers for pre-orders for their Nokia X that they announced at Mobile World Congress last month. The Nokia X went on sale today in China and promptly sold out in under 4 minutes. According to JD.com, the Nokia X had gotten about 1 million pre-orders in the first 4 days then 10 million within a week. However, pre-orders work differently in China than they do in the US. Basically pre-orders are like a reservation system in China. So while we’ve seen about 10 million “pre-orders” for the Nokia X, that doesn’t mean that Nokia has sold that many Nokia X’s just yet.

On the other hand, according to JD.com, the first batch of Nokia X’s went on sale this morning and sold out in under 4 minutes. Which is a good thing for Nokia, but it doesn’t really tell us how many phones Nokia sold. JD.com had a promotion for 10,000 Nokia X’s, so this first batch was bigger than that. But just how big that is, is still unknown.

What this shows us, is that there is quite a bit of interest for Nokia’s first Android phone, and that can’t be making Microsoft happy, especially with the deal becoming final next month. The Nokia X was meant to replace Nokia’s Asha line of devices, which are low-end or feature phone smartphones. Which Nokia still sells a ton of those, which we’re seeing them selling a ton of “Android” based Nokia X’s already. I put Android in quotes because it is a forked version of Android they are running on their Nokia X, XL and X+ smartphones.

While Nokia sold out of Nokia X’s today, the next batch is due in on March 31st – next Monday. So hopefully Nokia will have a larger batch of Nokia X’s available. This is typical of Chinese OEMs since we see this happen with Xiaomi and Meizu all the time. They put their phones on sale and within a few minutes they are sold out, and sold a few million. Which is pretty amazing, but that shows how big the smartphone market is over there in China.

Additional Moto 360 Designs Showing Different Bands

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

Moto360Bands

It has become more obvious that Motorola has struck gold with their take on the smart watch. Being one of the first to use Android Wear definitely helps Motorola in this fight, but there is more here that separates them from say LG. Remember, Motorola wasn’t the only company announcing a smart watch that day, but something made Motorla different, something launched them into the limelight that LG seemed to be missing and that was design. We wrote up an article to share what we know so far and what we don’t about the Moto 360. On that list of things we know so far, was design and we touched a bit on that. Now we have a little more information on the design, and your options when purchasing your Moto 360. So let’s go into the details behind the design of the Moto 360.

The biggest thing to remember is that watches have always and will continue to be part of the fashion world. Smart watches are an accessory piece, and as the bridge between the fashion industry and technology, they have a tough job ahead of them. The Moto 360 does a great job of bridging that gap. The band is what will hold this all together, and as we said before, the band will be interchangeable. However now we have more information in regards to the available options for the Moto 360 band. New images show some color options and material options for the bands. We knew the basic leather options and metal options already, but there seems to be some sort of microfiber band. There is no camera on the band, that hasn’t changed, so the next part of the watch is the main event.

Design wise, the watch itself is taking on an angle, with the round body. With a closer look at the sides of the device we get some answers and more questions. On one side, and notice we are not specifying which one, has a mic. On the other side, we see a physical button with little knowledge on what it is there for exactly. The reason for not mentioning left or right when referring to the sides, is simple, the software allows for you to decide the orientation. Meaning the watch can be worn on either the left or right arm.The back of the Moto 360 piece there is a hard plastic back plate. The purplish color is a nice touch to add some sophistication to the device, and who knows, maybe some sort of sensors are hidden there. One of the newest images shows a battery percentage on the screen of the watch. Now it isn’t a surprise that we would see a battery percentage anywhere on this device, but it is nice to see how camouflaged yet obvious it is shown.

Overall, the design is getting spectacular reviews and we haven’t even seen a hands on yet. Hopefully when Motorola releases the Moto 360 to the public, we will see little to no changes on the design.

Google Search Updated To Provide Traffic Updates Through Google Now Notifications

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

google-now-site-3

Everyone hates to have to sit in traffic. It can be one of the most utterly annoying things on the planet especially if you’re in a hurry. It’s good to have something like gps navigation on hand with trip updates just in case something happens that can hamper you getting to where ever you need to be on time. Maps has this feature built right in and can be extremely useful if you’re able to get everything open and ready before you head out. How could this task be simpler though? What could Google do to make it even easier for you to stay updated on the latest information revolving around traffic inducing events?

How about baking traffic notifications right into Google Now? That sounds like a pretty easy way to stay in the know about any traffic related incidents while you’re on the drive. As of this latest update to Google Search today, Google Now can keep you updated on any sort of traffic impacting incidents. On your way to work and worried you aren’t going to make it on time? As long as you have Google Now you have the potential to get notification cards letting you know about any traffic incidents that you may encounter on your trip. Heading out to your best friends wedding? Don’t be late. If you’re likely to hit some heavy traffic on the way, Google Now will notify you so you can find a way around the traffic, and take the back roads or any other alternate route that can you there quicker than the main drive.

I know I’m not the only one that has hit heavy traffic on the way to something important, only to find once it’s too late and you’re already stuck in it. Having this feature within Google Now can help you avoid these types of situations so you hopefully never get stuck in traffic again. We know it’s unlikely that you’ll avoid it every single time, but at least not you can plan accordingly. The feature should be live already, so head over to your apps list in the Play Store and get Google Search updated to get use of this new feature.

Update Schedule For The HTC Sense 6 UI Gets Leaked

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

Screenshot (433)

Why should all the excitement lie in the hands of those who are going to be upgrading to the new One M8? Those who are still going to be using the older HTC devices should get some love too. That’s how HTC feels and they’re right to think that. So what’s the good news for those of you on the HTC One and other current generation HTC smartphones? Well HTC is going to be updating your devices to the Sense 6 UI in the near future. It should be noted that there are a good number of HTC devices that will not be getting the upgrade, which is a shame, but at least some of the latest and most popular devices will see the update to Sense 6 down the line.

First off and as you probably could have guessed, the HTC One is going to be the first phone in the recent devices list to experience the love of Sense 6 once the software is ready to ship out to consumers. The likely time for owners of the HTC One to be expecting this update to hit their devices is sometime around the late spring to early summer. To be more specific, the update should start flowing into handsets between the months of May and June. This doesn’t mean that it wont come after that time or later, but that is a projected expectancy from HTC according to leaker Llab Toofer. Other devices planned to get the update are the HTC One Max, One mini, and the HTC Butterfly S, with a general time frame of one month after the HTC One. So if following the same guideline, we can expect to see the update for those last three devices between the month of June and July somewhere.

There isn’t exact date listed which is also to be expected, but at least now we have a window of when they should be hitting the airwaves. Sadly, any other HTC devices not listed here are said to not get the update to the new Sense 6.0 UI, so this means those of you using the HTC One X, One X+, One S, HTC Butterfly, Desire 601 and others will be stuck on the older version of Sense that you may already be running. Look forward for this update to hit your devices in the coming months, and for those of you that won’t be getting it, we’re sure someone will be quick to get started on a custom ROM based off the Sense 6 UI for other devices that won’t get it officially.

ATT And Sprint Galaxy S5 Can Now Be Pre-Ordered Via Amazon

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

Samsung-Galaxy-S5-22

Those looking to get a head start on buying up the Galaxy S5 can now do so through Amazon. There is one catch though, you have to pre-order the device with either ATT or Sprint. If you don’t have either of those two carriers this pre-order deal likely won’t phase you or catch your interest too much, but if you subscribe to either one or were thinking about switching you might want to see about trying to get your hands on one. To complete the pre-order you’ll of course have to sign up for a brand new 2-year contract with either carrier if you want the lower cost, and then the device will ship once it launches, or soon after.

There are a few other details to note when and if you’re thinking about doing the pre-order for the new Samsung flagship. Amazon only has two of the colors available out of all the colors. If you like your devices in Black or White, you’re in luck, and you can pre-order one through Amazon right this very moment(Amazon link below). Second, the only available size option in this pre-order listing is the 16GB model. Lastly, is what you already know since we mentioned it above, the Galaxy S5 pre-orders are only through ATT or Sprint. If all of that sounds good to you then you’re good to go.

Now lets talk pricing. Amazon pre-orders will cost you a cool $189.99 with a 2-year contract on ATT, or if you don’t like the idea of signing another 2 years of your life away with the carrier you can buy it for full cost at the price of $699.99. Seven hundred bucks is a little steep so if you already planning on staying with ATT then you might as well renew and get the cheaper deal. For Sprint customers, the prices are actually exactly the same, so if you were with another carrier and weighing out your options to switch to one of the two listed here based on price, you’ll have to find out another reason on which to choose. For the rest of us on other carriers, we’ll just have to wait until some Amazon pre-orders pop up for us or wait until we can get in our local stores. The phone is set to launch next month on the 11th, so we don’t have too long of wait.
