Chrome Central: HTC China Begins Listing The Desire 316 On Their Website

HTC’s next device to go on sale in China looks to be the Desire 316, which should be a fairly cheap handset for the market but boasts some decent enough specs for the price. So far there is no word on what the device will cost or when exactly this phone will launch, but since HTC’s China website is already listing the phone up on their page, we can make an educated guess that it will probably be sometime in the near future. The Desire 316 is the younger sibling of the Desire 516, and comes powered by android 4.3 Jelly Bean, and will have a 5-inch qHD display. The screen won’t be the best resolution, which is why this handset probably won’t cost Chinese consumers too much money.

As far as the rest of the specs go, the Desire 316 will house a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 quad-core processor that is clocked at 1.2 GHz. The low end amount of 512 MB of RAM should be just enough to make this a somewhat smooth handset, but certainly nowhere near breakneck speeds or the same fluidity to be had on the HTC One M8. The rear camera actually isn’t too bad, as the Desire 316 comes packing a 5MP rear shooter, although the front facing camera is only VGA so no expert self portraits here. Customers who pick up this phone once available will be looking at only 4GB of internal storage space, but that can be expanded upon with a microSD card up to 32GB via the expandable slot if needed. The Desire 316 will come with a 1,950 mAh battery, so we’re not sure how long the battery could last the average user, but given the low performance specs it will probably do just fine.

The device also looks like it’s coming with Blinkfeed, which will probably be a fairly standard feature for HTC devices going forward. Right now this device looks like it will be a China only release, and most likely HTC’s home market of Taiwan. Although it’s not an extremely powerful phone if it ever came stateside it probably would fit nicely as a backup for low cost. From the images on the site we can tell that the Desire 316 will come in two colors, white and black.
