You may remember that a few OPPO execs left the company and formed up OnePlus, in conjunction with CyanogenMod doing the software. They are releasing their first phone this summer, expected to hit around June. However they are keeping to just one device per year. So obviously OnePlus is going to want to have a high-end device. Their first phone is the OnePlus One, which should have an official announcement pretty soon. OnePlus is expected to launch in 10 countries, which is pretty good for a brand new smartphone manufacturer, but in comparison to Samsung, it’s quite sad. Samsung is launching in 150 countries on April 11th.
For weeks now, OnePlus has been running teasers revealing some details about their smartphone as well as taking stabs at the competition like Samsung and HTC. It appears that the OnePlus will feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor. They are not using the Snapdragon 801 due to heat issues. It’s also going to have a 3100mAh battery inside, and a design that the company is very proud of.
On Tuesday, an executive at OnePlus – Pete Lau – took to their official forum to post information about the One’s screen. It’s going to have a 5.5-inch 1080p Full HD IPS display made by JDI. So why did OnePlus pick a 5.5-inch display when most smartphones are around 5-inches these days? Well because they were able to make the OnePlus One with a 5.5-inch display, smaller than the 5-inch Sony Xperia Z1. Now that’s not really hard to do since Sony always has had some rather big bezels on their devices. So I have a feeling it’s going to be like the LG G2 and pretty much the entire front will be display, Which I won’t complain about. I love the fact that the G2 is almost all display, and very little bezel.
With that said, I honestly can’t wait for the OnePlus One to be official. How about the rest of you?
