Chrome Central: The HTC One M8 Gets Tested In Numerous Benchmarks

With the all new HTC One M8 announcement over and done with, full length reviews are on their way or have already been leaked, and we’ve even seen some rumors about benchmark tests leaked from yesterday using the Basemark benchmark tests. Now we’re getting a look at some of the benchmark test scores using other benchmarks like AnTuTu, Quadrant, Sunspider and some others. Some of you may not care about Benchmarks or scores, but it’s always nice to see how devices hold up in benchmarks to get an idea of how it will perform, even if it will end up slightly different from real world experience, you at least get the general idea.

With that said, the new One M8 will apparently have two different versions of the Snapdragon 801 chip being placed inside, which equates to certain locations having the device with one version of the 801 chip, and other regions getting the model with the second 801 chip. This basically boils down to geographical reasons, but the question is will it cause both handsets to perform differently than the other? First lets go over the different chips that will be inside the two different variants of the phone. The US, Europe and the rest of the world will be getting the new One M8 with the Snapdragon 801 2.3 GHz chip that is inside the Sony Xperia Z2, but Asia will end up with a model that houses a 2.5 GHz. With one of those chipsets having a slightly higher clock speed, it would be safe to assume that the benchmark test could end up different as well, but lets go ahead and check out how at least the 2.3GHz version device did.

Interestingly enough, the HTC One M8 actually forfeits the top spot a couple of times according to these benchmark tests. However, it scores pretty well overall and comes out on top in a decent number of tests as well. You can see that it ranks number one in the GFXBench Manhattan on-screen test, as well in the Basemark OS II. It does fall a little short though in the AnTuTu and Quadrant test scores, coming in fourth in the Quadrant score under the LG G2, Xperia Z1, and the LG GPro 2, and coming in second in the AnTuTu test score under the LG G2. Still, over all the HTC One M8 is a solid device that will end up performing very well for users. It’s fast, fluid, and very powerful as shown in yesterdays video review comparison between the old One and the new One M8.
