via AndroidHeadlines.com |

We first heard that HTC was preparing to launch a mini version of this years flagship, the HTC One M8, from evleaks not too long ago, and we reported yesterday that a Swedish carrier Telia had the unreleased device listed on their website for phones that would support HD voice. Not only is evleaks continuing to support his statement that HTC has a new Mini in the works, but he is also letting us in on some information that they are apparently working on a device referred to as the HTC One Ace, which should be this years version of the HTC One Max from last year. This doesn’t sound too far fetched and would round out HTC’s lineup of a small, mid, and large sized devices that are part of the One series of smartphones.

According to the source, the HTC One Mini will have a 4.5-inch 720p HD display, compared to last years 4.3-inch display on the HTC One mini. It;s also said to come with a 13MP camera on the back, and a 5MP camera on the front for the self portrait/selfie/or whatever else you want to call it. Perhaps it’ll be for those who have a Snapchat addiction? It’s also said to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor clocked at 1,4 GHz, and come with 16GB of internal storage space, and 1GB of RAM. We would expect that this new mini device will have a microSD card slot for expandable storage just like the HTC One M8, although there was no mention of that. There also hasn’t been any mention on a price just yet, but we probably won’t hear about that until we closer to when HTC themselves gets ready to announce the device.

So far when it comes to the rumored HTC One Ace, we know nothing other than the name, which could be the internal codename, or it could end up being the actual name of the device. There aren’t any details just yet about what sort of specs or hardware it will have, or what it’ll cost or what the release dates are expected to be. Once we know more about what HTC is said to have planned for the Ace, we’ll be sure to post it here.

Acer Announces Big Event To Happen Next Month On April 29th In New York

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

Acer-Chromebook-C720P-Review-AH (18)

It looks like Acer has some big plans for us coming soon. They just released an image invitation for a big announcement to take place next month on April 29th. The event takes place in New York City and is labeled as A Touch More Connected, and will be Acers big event for them to showcase this years new product lineup. It will also be the companies first global press conference headed up by the new President and CEO Jason Chen, so we should see some really big things to come from them this year.

We’ll most likely see some new tablets that are bound for the market later in the year, as well as some new smartphones, possibly the ones that we saw at MWC, and we could even see some more from in the way of Chromebooks. If we see a new Chromebook or a new line of Chromebooks for 2014, we can’t wait to see how they would have been improved over last years model. We know that a new budget tablet from Acer is in the works as it just passed through the FCC, called the Acer Iconia One 7, which will be a new 7-inch low cost tablet, so we could see them unveil that at the press event next month. As for smartphones, last month they showed off the Acer liquid E3, so could it be a possibility that we’ll see that unveiled with word of a release in other regions?

Whatever it is that Acer has planned, they’re excited about it and they definitely want us to be excited about it too. The announcement over next months event says that there will be more information to come, so we’ll probably hear some more details regarding about what to expect within the next week we would expect. Perhaps we’ll even see some wearables from Acer at this event, or we could hear more about their giant multi-touch monitor that is said to boot into Android 4.2 that they showed off at CES. Whatever they have to show us, we’re ready and we’ll be sure to let you guys in on what they have to offer.

Amazon Slashes Prices Off Their Kindle Fire HD/HDX Tablets For A Limited Time Promotion

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

Amazon-Kindle-Fire-HDX-89-back

In the market for a new tablet and looking for something that can be considered a good deal? Time to check out the Amazon Kindle Fire HD and the other Kindle Fire tablets, as Amazon has just posted that their line of Android powered tablets will be on sale for a limited time. It looks like Amazon is giving consumers deals to promote march madness. The Kindle Fire tablets we’re already a decently priced set of devices, but now they’re available for even less. Starting with the Kindle Fire HD, this tablet is getting a $20 discount from Amazon, making it come in at a cost of $119.99. That’s not bad for a 7-inch display with at least 8GB of space and a dual-core processor. Second, Amazon is slashing $30 off the Kindle Fire HDX 7-inch tablet, which makes it come in at a cost of $199. Normally the cost is $229.99. Lastly, is Amazon’s Kindle Fire HDX 8.9-inch tablet, which gets a discount of $40 off, giving this tablet the most money savings, but it’s not the least expensive one obviously. So instead of paying the full cost of $379.99, you end up walking away with it for $339.99.

These prices aren’t bad, and even if they could be a little better we can’t complain as any discount is still a discount. The tricky thing is that Amazon hasn’t listed any sort of time frame for how long this sale is going to last. Like we said it’s a limited time promotion which is all that Amazon has listed. So, if you’re in the market for a new tablet, a tablet for your kids, for a family member, or a back up for yourself, you definitely want to check these deals out before Amazon shoots the prices back up or loses stock.

Each tablet runs a version of Android, but as many of you already know the Android firmware that is built into the Kindle Fire devices is Amazon’s own closed ecosystem. That means you have access to hundreds of thousands of apps just like a regular Android device, but they’re all from Amazon’s app store. This deal comes at a great time as Amazon looks to be possibly getting ready for some sort of new service or product coming up in the near future, as evidenced by the invitations they have sent out about an event on April 2nd.

HTC China Begins Listing The Desire 316 On Their Website

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

HTC-Desire-316 (2)

HTC’s next device to go on sale in China looks to be the Desire 316, which should be a fairly cheap handset for the market but boasts some decent enough specs for the price. So far there is no word on what the device will cost or when exactly this phone will launch, but since HTC’s China website is already listing the phone up on their page, we can make an educated guess that it will probably be sometime in the near future. The Desire 316 is the younger sibling of the Desire 516, and comes powered by android 4.3 Jelly Bean, and will have a 5-inch qHD display. The screen won’t be the best resolution, which is why this handset probably won’t cost Chinese consumers too much money.

As far as the rest of the specs go, the Desire 316 will house a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 quad-core processor that is clocked at 1.2 GHz. The low end amount of 512 MB of RAM should be just enough to make this a somewhat smooth handset, but certainly nowhere near breakneck speeds or the same fluidity to be had on the HTC One M8. The rear camera actually isn’t too bad, as the Desire 316 comes packing a 5MP rear shooter, although the front facing camera is only VGA so no expert self portraits here. Customers who pick up this phone once available will be looking at only 4GB of internal storage space, but that can be expanded upon with a microSD card up to 32GB via the expandable slot if needed. The Desire 316 will come with a 1,950 mAh battery, so we’re not sure how long the battery could last the average user, but given the low performance specs it will probably do just fine.

The device also looks like it’s coming with Blinkfeed, which will probably be a fairly standard feature for HTC devices going forward. Right now this device looks like it will be a China only release, and most likely HTC’s home market of Taiwan. Although it’s not an extremely powerful phone if it ever came stateside it probably would fit nicely as a backup for low cost. From the images on the site we can tell that the Desire 316 will come in two colors, white and black.

Sliding SMS Is A Hangouts Style SMS Replacement App

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

Screenshot (478)

It can be hard to find that go to messaging app that you absolutely love. There’s nothing wrong with the standard messaging app within Android, it’s just boring. Hangouts has done a decent job at replacing the stock messaging app for many people, and with the addition of emoji and the link to gmail, and google+, hangouts provides a nice substitution to the everyday SMS app that comes with your device. What if you don’t care to use Hangouts as your default SMS app though? Maybe you like some of the features of having Hangouts do all the work, but you would rather separate Hangouts and messaging. So, what’s a person to do?

You could check out Sliding SMS(CM Messaging) instead, which is a decent alternative to having Hangouts act as your default. It has a similar sliding style to it so you can slide back and forth between your list of contacts that you’re messaging and the actual conversation going on between you and each one, and it even has the reply from status window feature that is synonymous with Hangouts, and it comes with a snappy interface that’s easy to use and ultimately a less bland solution than stock SMS. Among the features already listed it also supports breathing notifications, so when you get message notifications in your status bar the icon will fade in and out to give it a breathing effect. It’s more of an aesthetic trait but it can become useful as it can serve to catch the eye if you have your phone on silent.

Sliding SMS also supports themes and color schemes for the message boxes, so if you like to customize, you shouldn’t be disappointed. The best part about all of this of course is that Sliding SMS is free, and the one man dev team is keen on providing as much support as possible to keep the app running smooth. If there is an issue they seem to respond quickly and make attempts to fix whatever problems may pop up. You can also show or hide contact avatars, which could come in handy if someone’s contact avatar is nsfw. It also has the pop up reply feature so you can quickly send a message from where ever you are on the phone without having to switch to messaging. If you want to give Sliding SMS a try, you can grab it for free from the link.

Google Naps Helps You Locate All The Best Places To Rest Up

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

Lost and tired? No problem. You can use Google Naps to find yourself a suitable resting place. For years we’ve used Google Maps to get around and find the next best breakfast bistro, but it has become clear to us that it has always been missing one glaring feature. A nap finder. Because sometimes, you just need to take a nap. Perhaps you just had a long day of shopping, maybe you’ve been scouring the city for a place to open your business, or maybe you just sleep a lot. Hey, no judgement here, sometimes a good nap is just what the doctor ordered. Google Naps can help you find the best places in your area for napping if you ever have the need, and it looks just like Google Maps so you should find the interface familiar and easy to use.

The actual developers of this fantastically wonderful website are actually based out of The Netherlands, which is apparently an extremely nap friendly part of Europe. There wasn’t any great nap spots(or any for that matter)in my local area, but just about an hour north in Portland I found there to be a decent few spots. The great part about Google Naps is that you can actually submit your own nap locations by simply clicking on a locale on the map, and then you enter your name and information about why that chosen location is a great spot for napping, and what type of nap area it is(I.E. where you’ll be sleeping). Pretty simple, and pretty straight forward.

As hilarious as it is to see such a website like this pop up(the developers are calling this a parody), we have to wonder what Google actually thinks. The creators of the site actually have a message posted in the bottom right hand corner of the map that is asking Google not to pursue any legal action, and that they have only done this to put smiles on peoples faces. An lets be honest, because they feel the world needs more power of information on the best places to snag a few Zzzz. The next time you need to take a break, make sure to pull up Google Naps and you just might find yourself near a great place to have a nap.
