OnePlus One to have a 5.5-inch Display, But Have a Smaller Body than the Xperia Z1

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

Sony-Xperia-Z1s-T-Mobile-Hero-AH

You may remember that a few OPPO execs left the company and formed up OnePlus, in conjunction with CyanogenMod doing the software. They are releasing their first phone this summer, expected to hit around June. However they are keeping to just one device per year. So obviously OnePlus is going to want to have a high-end device. Their first phone is the OnePlus One, which should have an official announcement pretty soon. OnePlus is expected to launch in 10 countries, which is pretty good for a brand new smartphone manufacturer, but in comparison to Samsung, it’s quite sad. Samsung is launching in 150 countries on April 11th.

For weeks now, OnePlus has been running teasers revealing some details about their smartphone as well as taking stabs at the competition like Samsung and HTC. It appears that the OnePlus will feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor. They are not using the Snapdragon 801 due to heat issues. It’s also going to have a 3100mAh battery inside, and a design that the company is very proud of.

On Tuesday, an executive at OnePlus – Pete Lau – took to their official forum to post information about the One’s screen. It’s going to have a 5.5-inch 1080p Full HD IPS display made by JDI. So why did OnePlus pick a 5.5-inch display when most smartphones are around 5-inches these days? Well because they were able to make the OnePlus One with a 5.5-inch display, smaller than the 5-inch Sony Xperia Z1. Now that’s not really hard to do since Sony always has had some rather big bezels on their devices. So I have a feeling it’s going to be like the LG G2 and pretty much the entire front will be display, Which I won’t complain about. I love the fact that the G2 is almost all display, and very little bezel.

With that said, I honestly can’t wait for the OnePlus One to be official. How about the rest of you?

OPPO Doesn’t Send Out Your Typical Event Invite, But It’s Pretty Awesome

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

find7teaser

OPPO has been teasing their next flagship – the Find 7 – for a long time now. We already know that they are holding an event on March 19th, which is next week. And now we are starting to see invites hit doorsteps of those attending the event. The event invite isn’t your typical invite though. Usually it’s just an email with some fancy graphic, but this time OPPO Has gone all out. You can see the video below, from GizChina, to see what we mean. But inside the box there’s a QR code for both iOS and Android devices, along with details of the event location. Underneath there is this prism-like object which kinda looks strange looking. But scan the QR code and place your phone on top of the prism-like object, and it’ll launch a video teasing the features of the Find 7 inside the triangle. Man it’s pretty awesome.

March 19th is next Wednesday, so we should learn everything there is to know about the OPPO Find 7 next week. We’re hoping it’ll come to the US unlocked and hopefully on a carrier or two, but I wouldn’t hold my breath as OPPO is still new to the smartphone world, it’ll likely only be here unlocked. As far as the specs go, we’re looking at rumors of a 2560×1440 resolution QHD Display, as well as a 1080p model. Obviously those will have different prices. We’re also looking at a 50MP camera which somehow is done from a 13MP camera, that we’re going to have to find out more from OPPO once the device goes official, but I’m excited about that. We’re also looking at a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 or 801 processor inside. This device is said to have very high-end specs, so we’re excited to see what OPPO has in store.

Enjoy the video below, and let us know what you think about the OPPO Find 7 in the comments below.

Yet Another HTC One Leak, This Time a Guy Taking Pictures at a Tennis Match

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

All-New-HTC-One-M8

I wonder how many more leaks we’ll see of the HTC One M8? We’ve already seen just about everything about the HTC One already, including learning what the duo-camera feature is all about – Thanks Telstra. Today, a reader of PhoneArena sent in a picture of a guy with a phone taking pictures at a Tennis match. Which ordinarily we’d just skip over it, but it looks like he’s using the HTC One. As you can clearly see the front-facing Boomsound speakers, and the curved corners, which are a bit more curved than the original One.

Looking at the picture it looks the device does have a case on it, which makes sense as you’d probably drop it holding it up that high to take pictures. But then again, this is an unreleased device that is still technically a “secret”. HTC has more than likely cracked down on whoever is distributing these units to testers and such to take steps to conceal the device from prying eyes like ours. But it doesn’t look like that’s helped them much, as we still know it’s the HTC One.

We’re still awaiting the HTC One Announcement on March 25th, which is two weeks from today. HTC will be having a joint event much like last year. Where they are doing events here in New York City and in London. Hopefully all of HTC’s secrets haven’t been revealed yet, especially since we don’t know the specs – since none of the ‘reviewers’ talked about the specs at all – but I’m anxious to get the device announced so we can move on to other leaks, like the LG G3.

The HTC One is still going to be a great device, and I think it’ll sell well if HTC can get their marketing together. We’ll cross our fingers and hope they do get that marketing department in shape this year.

Jawbone UP24 Finally Supports Android with Latest Update

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

Jawbone_UP_35831719-2-10_610x407

Many of you probably know that the Jawbone UP24 is the successor to the Jawbone UP. The biggest difference between the two is Bluetooth connectivity which allows you to go ahead and wirelessly sync your Jawbone UP24 with your device. However, prior to today, that was only available for iOS. As the Android app has finally been updated to support the Jawbone UP24 and it should actually sync wirelessly with any device supporting Bluetooth 4.0 LE. Which is actually anything running Android 4.3 or higher, as Google added BLE into Android 4.3.

The Jawbone UP24 is available now for just $149.99 in black and red. It’s a very nice looking activity tracker, although it does not have a display, it still does everything quite well. The Jawbone UP24 can track sleep including total hours, time to fall asleep, and number of wake ups. It’ll also track activity including steps, distance, calories burned, and active vs idle time. With the app, you are also able to log what you eat and drink and track nutritional information as well. Some of my favorite features of the UP24 include the Smart Alarm and Power Nap features that wake you up at the time that leaves you feeling refreshed.

The Android app from Jawbone is actually a pretty decent app, albeit not holo, but it does exactly what you need it to do. Now people on Android can take the Jawbone UP24 seriously when it comes to activity trackers, as it is compatible with Android. Unlike Nike and their fuelband. The Jawbone UP24 has always been a pretty nice looking activity tracker which has a tone of features. And now it brings itself into competition with the Fitbit on Android.

How many of you are going to pick up a Jawbone UP24 now that it’s compatible with Android? Let us know in the comments below.

Disgruntled Mother brings Class Action against Google after Child Drops $65 on Android In-App Purchases

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

kidtablet

Love them or hate them, in-app purchases go hand in hand with mobile gaming these days. While some don’t interfere with gameplay much, it seems that many more are there as a way to bypass the long wait times that mobile games have become famous for. They aren’t just a headache for gamers, however, as they can cause real problems for parents whose children unknowingly rack up dozens or even hundreds of dollars worth of in-app purchases. A New York woman is angry after her five-year-old child reportedly managed to spend $65.95 on in-app purchases in the game “Marvel Run Jump Smash!” and she’s letting Google know through a new class action lawsuit.

The lawsuit was filed in San Francisco at the end of last week, and takes issue with the fact that Google Play doesn’t always require users to enter their password before they make in-app purchases with real money. While the Google Play Store will require you to enter your password most of the time, it won’t ask for 30 minutes after the app is initially installed. This, obviously, can result in some financial woes for parents who aren’t aware of the 30 minute rule. Add to that the fact that some of these games are directly aimed at children, and it isn’t hard to understand why some parents are up in arms about these cases of oblivious spending.

If history is any indication, this class action lawsuit against Google might actually succeed. Apple found itself at the middle of a similar lawsuit not too long ago, and the iPhone maker ended up paying tens of millions of dollars in settlement money with parents and the FTC. Just like Google, Apple didn’t require users to enter their password before making purchases for 15 minutes after downloading an app, but the company unsurprisingly ended up closing that window.

While it’s tempting to argue that parents should be keeping a watchful eye on their children as they’re using these apps, it isn’t exactly absurd for these parents to expect there to be some kind of barrier in place when it comes to spending real money on “free” games. These aren’t necessarily isolated incidents either, as it usually isn’t long before you hear of yet another parent flabbergasted at the amount of money their child burned through on in-app purchases. It’ll likely be a fairly long wait before we get any kind of judgment (the plaintiff is requesting a jury trial), but in the meantime, head down to the comments section and let us know what you think of lawsuits like this.

The Rumored Nexus 8 Tablet Could Be Powered By An Intel Chip

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

google-reveals-nexus-7-tablet-designed-to-compete-with-kindle-0

Google could potentially working on an 8-inch Nexus Tablet for this year, and it’s possible that Intel could be the chip they use to power the device. So far we’ve heard a few rumors regarding Google replacing the Nexus 7 line with a new 8-inch size screen device, but as we draw closer to Google’s annual developer conference, more and more rumors seems to be surfacing about this yet unconfirmed piece of hardware. We may indeed see a brand new tablet in the Nexus line of devices, although it’s unlikely that we’ll see a brand new version of the Android OS come along with it as rumors are speculating the next iteration that we see will be 4.5.

Other rumors state that the Intel’s Atom Moorefield quad-core processor which runs on the 64-bit architecture, will be the chip that will be used inside of the tablet, and that ASUS will be the company that manufactures the tablet. The Nexus 8, and all the details are rumored to be showing up at the annual Google I/O event later this year, which is scheduled to happen on June 25th. On the graphics side of things, the rumored Nexus 8 is said to potentially use the new PowerVR G6430 GPU, which is said to perform at over 20 times faster than previous model GPUs. Alongside ASUS, there are also rumors floating around that Lenovo may be the next in line to deliver whatever the Nexus 8 tablet. The rumors about the Intel Chip seem to have started once Intel announced the arrival of a new mobile chip at Mobile World Congress, which might be near ready to ship out to device manufacturers.

So far there are really no concrete details about the Nexus 8 tablet, or what sort of components will be inside. Google could indeed choose to go with a completely different processor type this time around, or stick with Qualcomm for the chip, which has been the processor brand they have used in the last three nexus devices. What do you all think about the rumors of a new 8-inch tablet and the potential of Intel being the power behind it? Is it more likely than what we’re used to seeing from Google and the Nexus line?
