Samsung Creates Galaxy S5 Experience App To Show People What They’re Missing Out On

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

2014-03-20 16.50.05

Is this some sort of trick? Nope, it’s just Samsung’s latest strategy to attempt to convince customers to buy their latest flagship device. Samsung really believes in their new device, the Galaxy S5, so much so that they’re willing to tell you what you’re current phone is missing by presenting it to you with an app that you can install on your current phone. The Galaxy S 5 Experience, as it’s being called, sounds more like some sort of weird documentary or even a low budget Sci-Fi flick, but we assure you it is every bit not those things in the slightest. The app goes into detail about some of the most attractive features of the Galaxy S5 with menus and highlights of each one. You can select your category for the feature you want to know more about, and Samsung has graciously provided big beautiful images along with a description of the feature so it can shift the spotlight onto how great it would be, if you owned the phone that had them of course.

The app provides you with different categories to select from so you can learn more about the specific details that you want to pinpoint first. Perhaps you’re really interested in one certain feature of the phone and want to know more. The categories listed are camera, speed, fitness, life, gear, and more, which consists of subcategories called additional features, gallery and accessories, just in case you wanted to check any of those out. Upon glancing through each category I found that there were hands on videos in most of them, as well as an option called Experience that walks you through an interactive slideshow on key details surrounding that specific feature.

Is this a genius move on Samsung’s part to rope more people in? You be the judge. It wouldn’t be surprising though if this app helped them sell quite a few more handsets. Should any potential customer have missed any of the big announcements surrounding the phone, not to worry because they can learn about it here. And.. all the details are available right from people’s finger tips. They don’t have to do anything special to track down hands on videos or details about certain features. This won’t be getting me to buy a Galaxy S 5 which is the intended purpose for the app, but it is well designed and put together nicely. The images are beautiful especially in immersive mode, and the hands on stuff is useful, jumping you straight to YouTube to watch the videos. If you were on the fence about the Galaxy S5 and want to know more, you can download the Galxay S5 Experience app free from the Play Store.

Drizly Is An App That Delivers Alcohol To Your Front Door

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

Drizly

If you live in the Boston or The New York City area and you’re tired of having to go to the store yourself to get some beer, wine, or liquor, then it seems that they finally have an app for that. A new app called Drizzly lets you order the alcohol of your choice and have it delivered right to your front door like you were ordering a pizza. You can also order softdrinks or other types of non-alcoholic drinks if you have to uninhibited, and you can even track the order in real time as it’s headed to your house, which the app says usually takes around 30-60 minutes, so expect to get your drinks hand delivered to you within an hour if you order. Honestly this is an amazing app and I would jump at the chance to have some beers delivered on Friday night as opposed to making the trip to the local bottle shop and getting them. Provided they have a decent selection to match the shop of course.

The app looks pretty good visually, with easy to read menu text and large images to look at for the drinks you’ll be ordering. The only downside I can see to this app currently is that it only services those two particular places I mentioned up above. Boston, and New York City. Now if someone created and app that had a similar service of delivery here in the Northwest area, i’d be happy to give it a try and see just how well it fares. Drizly makes it a point to mention that you must be 21 to order from them, and that to prevent any such tomfoolery of misuse, they do multi-factor authentication/validation on IDs for every single order that is placed. So, basically it sounds like there’s no way of getting around the security bit which is great.

If you happen to live in this particular area and find this app to be quite useful, you can check out the Drizly app free in the Play Store as the app is live now, and the best part about orders is that they charge non marked up prices for drinks, so be expecting to pay for the drink what you’d pay if you went and got it yourself. The app doesn’t specify whether or not there is any sort of delivery charge, but if you happen to end up using it, feel free to share your experience with us on how things went as we’re generally curious.

Schools in South Korea are Controlling and Disabling Students’ Android Smartphones

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

ismartkeeper_61

More children than ever have smartphones, and more of them are using their phones at school than ever before. Teachers and school systems are looking for new and innovate ways to control kids’ phone use. Schools in South Korea have been testing an app called iSmartKeeper and they think it’s the answer to controlling kids and their smartphones while they are in school. Sometimes the app over steps its bounds and continues to control kids’ phones after they leave school, too.

iSmartKeeper lets parents and teachers restrict the apps that students have access to, and also the services they can use. The app settings allow for limiting apps and services during certain times of the day. Things can be locked down while students are in class, opened back up while they are on recess and lunch, and then students can have full access to their phone when they leave school for the day. iSmartKeeper even allows for GPS-based geofencing so phones can be restricted automatically when students arrive on school property, and they’ll be automatically unrestricted when students leave. This doesn’t always work, though, with some students reporting that the app continues to restrict their usage for hours after they leave school.

South Korean schools don’t want to ban smartphones completely. These types of bans rarely work anyways. Schools also use educational apps that let students learn right on their devices, so they can’t ban these devices altogether. The iSmartKeeper app has been tested in 11 schools in South Korea’s capital of Seoul. Other provinces have also been testing the app, and the results have been hit or miss. Korean children have taken to rooting their Android handsets to successfully circumvent the app’s restrictions. The app is also only available for Android devices currently. South Korea is a predominantly Android-based country, with OEMs like LG and Samsung based out of the country. iOS and Windows Phone devices do exist, but the iSmartKeeper app isn’t available for those platforms yet.

Some opponents of these measures cite human rights concerns over the hijacking of kids’ smartphones. Parents must sign a waiver to have the app installed, but it’s still being installed on students’ personal devices. Even so, it’s been recommended that 677 schools in the Gangwon province of South Korea start using the app immediately. Other provinces are continuing to test the system before they make a final decision.

All New HTC One Shown in A Lineup With Other Devices

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

AllNewHTCOneComparisonLineup

March 25th is the date HTC will be announcing the All New HTC One, it will also be the day leaks will become nothing more than reports. If you have been paying attention the All New HTC One has all but been officially announced. Now we have a comparison photo, placing the All New HTC One in a sort of lineup of devices.

We have seen what the All New HTC One, looks like, both front and back in an early video review, if you want to call it that. We have seen the camera UI, and the Duo camera, we have seen almost everything about the All New HTC One. The newest images have the All New HTC One in a line up of smartphones. Laying face down, we see the All New HTC One in between the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 2.

It seems as though all the devices before the New HTC One are smaller in size, those being the iPhone 5s, LG G2, and the Samsung Galaxy S4. Then we have the All NEw HTC One, followed by the Sony Xperia Z1, which seems to be about the same size. Last is the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. Along with the photo being passed around, there are also reports that the device has passed through certification channels in China, giving away some specs that may hold true.

Those specs involve a little of whats inside, as well as colors, display, and cameras. Those specs show a 5-inch 1080p display, with 2GB of RAM and 2.26GHz quad-core processor. As always, the All New One will come in silver, as well as red, black and gold. Hopefully all color options will be released at once, though we seem to missing that vivid and metallic blue that we saw the original HTC One come in at some point. Then there is the camera. If you aren’t aware, mostly because that rock you live under has no WiFi and you are on Sprint data plans, the All New HTC One has a “Duo” camera on the back. We still aren’t sure exactly what HTC plans to do with this exactly, but according to the same certification process we spoke of earlier, the back camera will have 16MP and the front camera will be 4MP.

The device is set to launch March 25th 2014, both in NYC, and in London. So are you excited for the event, or do you feel that with all of the leaks, there is nothing left to know?

Deal: RAVPower Portable Charger Element 10,400mAh Power Bank for $29.99

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

41YG5kZPlpL

We’ve been seeing a lot of deals for portable power banks lately, and RAVPower also has their own portable charger on sale on Amazon right now as well. This one is a 10,400mAh charger, which has two USB outlets, so you are able to charge two devices at the same time. Additionally it does have LED indicators on the top to show you how much battery is left on the portable power bank. It can charge one device at a maximum speed or two at 3A total. One 5V/3A max port charges Android devices and Apple devices running iOS 5 or higher at full speed. According to RAVPower, it cannot charge Samsung and ASUS tablets. I’m guessing it’s due to the different charging ports on their older tablets.

The Element has a smooth, ebony varnish which allows you to power up in style. It also comes with a a travel charge, 2 USB to micro USB chargers and detailed instructions, although you shouldn’t need instructions for this as it’s simply plug-and-go.

How many of you are planning on picking up one of these? Be sure to let us know in the comments down below.

RAVPower Portable Charger Element 10400mAh Power Bank External Battery Charger Pack (Dual USB Outputs, Ultra Compact Design), for iPhone 5, 5S, 5C, 4S, 4, iPad Air, 4, 3, 2, Mini 2 (Apple adapters not included); Samsung Galaxy S4, S3, S2, Note 3, Note 2; HTC One, EVO, Thunderbolt, Incredible, Droid DNA, Motorola ATRIX, Droid, Moto X, Google Glass, Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, Nexus 10, LG Optimus, PS Vita, GoPro and More

US Cellular is Next to Announce Galaxy S5 Pre-Orders; Throwing in $50 Google Play Credit As Well

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

Galaxy S5 Gold

Hot off the heels of AT&T announcing pre-orders for the Samsung Galaxy S5, Samsung Gear 2 and Gear Fit, US Cellular has just announced their pre-orders will start tomorrow as well. Much like AT&T, US Cellular is also listing it at $199 for a new two-year contract. That is after an instant rebate of course. US Cellular is also throwing in a $50 Google Play gift card with your purchase as well, which is always nice to have. The Samsung Galaxy S5 is going to be in-stores on April 11th, which is when Samsung said the device would be launching.

US Cellular is also doing pre-orders for the Samsung Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo and Gear Fit. With them being available in-store on April 11th as well. They didn’t offer pricing on the new wearables, but I think it’s safe to assume that it’s going to be close to what AT&T is pricing the Gear 2 and Gear Fit at, which is $299 and $199 respectively.

On top of that, US Cellular says a handful of stores in Wisconsin and Iowa will have the Samsung Galaxy S5, Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo, and Gear Fit available for direct purchase. These stores include the 2315 Edgewood Rd., in Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 4444 1st Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa’ 101 Junction Rd., Madison, Wisconsin; 740 N. Water St., Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and 5670 N. Port Washington, Glendale, Wisconsin. So if you’re interested in grabbing the Galaxy S5 or one of Samsung’s new wearables as soon as they are available, you’ll need to head to one of those five stores in Iowa or Wisconsin.

If you are already on US Cellular, it’s a pretty great phone, and probably a pretty decent upgrade over your current one, depending on what smartphone you’re sporting. How many of you are planning to upgrade tot he Galaxy S5 when it launches on US Cellular in less than a month?

Samsung Rumored To Be Launching a Premium Line of Headphones

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

PremiumHeadphone

According to the folks over at Sammobile, Samsung is looking to launch a new line of premium headphones for their smartphones and tablets. Sammobile got their hands on a sales guide image which includes headphones of both in-ear and on-ear models. They are also available in both wired and wireless models and will have support for launching the S Voice app on connected headphones and tablets for voice actions. According to the guide the prices will start at $349 for the high-end model, the EO-AG900. This model will have remote control, noise cancellation and an equalizer. Additionally each model will also come with accessories such as an airplane plug adapter for using in airplanes, which is great for those that do a lot of traveling.

There are also two other models, the EO-OG900 which is a wired only headset and is priced at $199 which will also come with a carrying case, and an airplane plug adapter. Finally there is the EO-IG900 which is about $149 and wired only. This one will come with a carrying case as well as an airplane plug adapter and 4 silicon/3 foam tips. Which these are earbuds and not headphones.

Sammobile is speculating and saying that the steep prices are suggesting that we’ll get quality sound from all three of these, which I certainly hope so. So far we have no idea when Samsung will make these available for all of us to pick up, but hopefully they come out soon. Maybe they’ll be available on launch day for the Galaxy S5? That’d be a perfect time I’d think, to launch all three of these headphones/earbuds, right? Whenever Samsung decides to launch them, you can guarantee that we will let you know when they are available.

Who is interested in any of these premium headphones from Samsung? Be sure to let us know in the comments below.
