via AndroidHeadlines.com |

Verizon did score a bit of an exclusive on the HTC One M8 today. It’s not as bad as we all thought it’d be though. Instead of them having the exclusive for two weeks, it appears they only have the in-store availability as an exclusive. You can buy the HTC One M8 from Verizon starting right now. While the other carriers – T-Mobile, AT&T and Sprint – are available for order on their websites as well as T-Mobile’s. So if you’re on Verizon or looking to jump over to Verizon and want the HTC One M8, head to your local Verizon store now. Don’t forget to pick up that HTC Dot View case too, that thing looks amazing.

The HTC One M8 features a 5-inch 1080p SuperLCD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB of RAM, 2600mAh battery, microSD card slot with 16 or 32GB of internal storage, and it’s running on Android 4.4.2 KitKat and Sense 6. As far as the camera’s go we’re looking at a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, a 4.1MP UltraPixel camera and a 2MP camera on the back. No, HTC did not go the 3D route again. The second camera is there for plenty of cool features, like background defocus, the ability to refocus the shot after you’ve taken it and much more. HTC has also kept the front-facing Boomsound speakers we all loved from the HTC One last year.

While Verizon has it available today, it’s got to be a big sigh of relief for a lot of Verizon users. Since they took so long in pushing out the HTC One last year. And this year they are first to have the device. Let’s see if Verizon helps market the HTC One M8 at all for HTC. Likely not since it’s not a DROID and the exclusive isn’t lasting too long. How many of you are running out to pick one up? Let us know in the comments below.

Verizon Holding a Hangout at 3pm ET Today about the HTC One M8

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

Screen Shot 2014-03-25 at 12.56.56 PM

Verizon is holding a Hangouts on Air later this afternoon about the HTC One M8. From what I understand it’s basically a Q&A for those thinking about buying the new HTC One M8. It’s available from Verizon stores in just a few minutes, so if you really want to pick one up, you can just head out to your local Verizon Store. Verizon is asking that you submit questions on Twitter, Facebook, and Google+ using the hashtag #HTCOneHangout. The Hangout will be streaming live on Google+ and Verizon’s YouTube page, which you can head over to the event page here and RSVP if you’re interested. I’d expect the hangout to last probably about less than an hour, similar to what the Moto 360 hangout was like last week.

The HTC One M8 was made official this morning sporting a 5-inch 1080p Super LCD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB/32GB of internal storage with a microSD card slot, 2600mAh battery inside and it’s running on Android 4.4.2 KitKat and Sense 6. It’s also available in three colors, Amber Gold, Gunmetal Gray and Glacial silver. It’ll also be available at Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile on April 10th, but those on Verizon can grab there’s as soon as 1pm ET today – which depending on when you’re reading this, it’s probably already available.

If you’re not around at 3pm ET today for the Verizon hangout, don’t be upset as it’ll be available to watch later on over on YouTube. Every Hangout on Air is recorded to YouTube so you can watch them later. In fact, that’s how we do our podcasts each week. Speaking of which, we’ll be live tonight with Episode 52 of the Android Headlines show where we’ll be talking all about the HTC One M8. So be sure to join us as well.

HTC Boosts Color Range On New HTC One M8 Display For More Vibrant, Striking Visual Appeal

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

php1iru0u

You’ve seen all the images you might be able to bare of the new HTC One M8 and it’s new larger, vibrant, and more brilliant screen that comes in measuring at 5-inches. The screen isn’t the only new feature of HTC’s One revision, but it certainly comes to mind more than most. It is after all what we’ll be staring at most of the time seeing as how it’s what we interact with when using it. The size of this new display is obviously larger, but it’s also better quality, and that’s what we’re going over now. Judging by yesterdays comparison video, we can see that the new One M8 definitely has a brighter and more colorful display with that wow factor when compared to the HTC One from last year. Not only that, but the screen has a little something extra added to it.

More specifically, the screen on the new One has been measured to show that the saturated color ranges expand beyond the limits of standard sRGB color space. What HTC has done here with the display is basically pump the color up to look more vibrant and more visually appealing, as opposed to giving us a display that gives off a more true to life color appearance. The results end up giving us more vibrant colors that stand out, which is what gives it such an eye popping look. Phone Arena did a measurement of the color gamut on the new One M8, and the results they found were that the M8′s color gamut reaches 110% of the normal sRGB color gamut range. This means that it surpasses the range on devices like the LG G2 or the original HTC One which both have color gamut areas of 100%, while devices like the Nexus 5 and iPhone 5S have color gamut areas of 98% and 97%.

When compared to other displays, it doesn’t necessarily mean it will end up looking better as beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What it really comes down to is that color visuals come out to look more enhanced, while some displays have colors that look more natural. In the end, boosted color gamut or not, how good the screen looks comes down to what we as users prefer. So, the question is, do you prefer a screen with pumped up visuals and color ranges like on the new One M8, or do you want something that has color ranges that a little more natural like something on the Nexus 5?

HTC Posts Official Intro Video and Images of the HTC One M8

By now, you’re probably tired of hearing about the HTC One M8. After all that’s about all we’ve written about today. But today is HTC’s day so they get the entire spotlight. HTC has made the device official earlier today at their event and the HTC One M8 is available for your ordering pleasure through Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile and AT&T. However, Verizon has the device available in stores right now – or in the next few minutes depending on when you’re reading this. HTC has also posted the official introductory video for the HTC One M8 and some press shots of the device. Which we thought we’d put into a nice post for everyone to check out.

The HTC One M8 is going to be available in over 100 countries on April 10th. That’s just a day before Samsung is launching the Galaxy S5 in over a hundred countries. Coincidence? The HTC One M8 also features a 5-inch 1080p Super LCD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.3GHz, along with 2GB of RAM, and a 2600mAh battery inside. It’s also running on Android 4.4.2 and Sense 6. The most interesting part about the HTC One M8 is the cameras. There are actually three cameras on this bad boy. The front-facing camera is a 5-megapixel camera, and on the back there’s a 2-megapixel up top and a 4.1-megapixel UltraPixel camera below that. No, there’s no 3D capabilities here, thankfully.

For those of you interested in the HTC One M8, you may want to take a gander throughout the gallery below and check out the video as well. It’s a nice looking device with top-of-the-line specs. I just hope that HTC doesn’t get screwed again like last year, when they ran out of processors because other OEMs had bought them all up.

The HTC One M8 Gets Tested In Numerous Benchmarks

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

Screenshot-434-e1395682994814

With the all new HTC One M8 announcement over and done with, full length reviews are on their way or have already been leaked, and we’ve even seen some rumors about benchmark tests leaked from yesterday using the Basemark benchmark tests. Now we’re getting a look at some of the benchmark test scores using other benchmarks like AnTuTu, Quadrant, Sunspider and some others. Some of you may not care about Benchmarks or scores, but it’s always nice to see how devices hold up in benchmarks to get an idea of how it will perform, even if it will end up slightly different from real world experience, you at least get the general idea.

With that said, the new One M8 will apparently have two different versions of the Snapdragon 801 chip being placed inside, which equates to certain locations having the device with one version of the 801 chip, and other regions getting the model with the second 801 chip. This basically boils down to geographical reasons, but the question is will it cause both handsets to perform differently than the other? First lets go over the different chips that will be inside the two different variants of the phone. The US, Europe and the rest of the world will be getting the new One M8 with the Snapdragon 801 2.3 GHz chip that is inside the Sony Xperia Z2, but Asia will end up with a model that houses a 2.5 GHz. With one of those chipsets having a slightly higher clock speed, it would be safe to assume that the benchmark test could end up different as well, but lets go ahead and check out how at least the 2.3GHz version device did.

Interestingly enough, the HTC One M8 actually forfeits the top spot a couple of times according to these benchmark tests. However, it scores pretty well overall and comes out on top in a decent number of tests as well. You can see that it ranks number one in the GFXBench Manhattan on-screen test, as well in the Basemark OS II. It does fall a little short though in the AnTuTu and Quadrant test scores, coming in fourth in the Quadrant score under the LG G2, Xperia Z1, and the LG GPro 2, and coming in second in the AnTuTu test score under the LG G2. Still, over all the HTC One M8 is a solid device that will end up performing very well for users. It’s fast, fluid, and very powerful as shown in yesterdays video review comparison between the old One and the new One M8.

Canadian Availability for the HTC One M8: Rogers, Bell, Telus, Wind Mobile and SaskTel

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

HTC-One-M8 (07)

While the US is getting the HTC One M8 today – at least if you walk into a Verizon store. Those in Canada will have to wait until April to get their hands on the HTC One M8. It appears that most of the major carriers in the great white north are getting the HTC One M8. That includes Bell, Rogers, Telus, Wind and Sasktel. It’ll be $229.99 on a new 2-year contract and around $600-700 off-contract or full retail. All of the Canadian carriers are starting pre-orders today and the HTC One M8 will be available in April. No specific dates available just yet. But as always we’ll be sure to let everyone know as soon as we know more information.

TELUS is offering a bunch of free accessories with the HTC One M8. The carrier is offering the Double Dip case, the HTC Fetch and a 9000mAh external battery pack. Which makes it sound like an incredible deal.

Much like here in the US, the pre-orders for Bell, Rogers, TELUS, Wind and Sasktel will start at 1pm ET. So those looking to pick up a HTC One M8 in Canada will have to wait a bit longer, but at least you can pre-order it starting today. The HTC One M8 has a 5-inch 1080p display, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset and 2GB of RAM. It is also running Android 4.4.2 and Sense 6. The HTC One M8 is also packing a 2600mAh battery inside to keep you going all day, which is said to have some pretty incredible standby time which we can all get behind 2 weeks of standby – I think. It’s also available in Amber Gold, Glacial Silver and Gunmetal Gray. Colors may vary depending on carrier, but once again as soon as we learn more we’ll be sure to update everyone.

Any of our Canadian friends planning on pre-ordering the HTC One M8?

Original HTC One Will Get Sense 6, But Will It Come With All The New Features?

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

AH-HTC-ONE-REVIEW-12

So yesterday we told you guys about the leaked update schedule for the HTC Software UI Sense 6, and when that update would be heading to older HTC devices. It was no surprise that the original HTC One would be getting the software update before any other device on the list, that was a given, but now that the new One M8 is official so is the update to Sense 6 for the One, as it’s no longer just a leak. The device will get the update to Sense 6.0, but there is some bad news that comes along with the good news, it may end up losing some of Sense 6′s features in the journey back in time to an older device. According to the leaked update schedule, the update to Sense 6.0 should be headed to your old HTC One phone sometime between May and June. That’s only a couple of months away at most, so definitely get ready to see the update soon, before summer most likely.

According to Tech Radar who is on the ground floor at one of the live events, a spokesperson from HTC told them that the update to Sense 6 would be coming to the 2013 HTC One Family, and that we should stay tuned for any details in the coming months about the software upgrade. That’s a pretty vague statement but at least there’s the confirmation from someone at HTC. So, now we know that things are officially official, lets go over the probability of the older HTC One getting all the new features of Sense 6, or whether some will be left behind to the new device only.

You can bet that the updated Blink Feed will be making its way to the older One, as it already has Blink Feed in the first place. Any of the update UI improvements like the cleaner style and the updated look to the status bar will probably come along for the ride as well. What we’re not so sure about, is if the original One will get the Motion Sense features, which basically lets you tap the new One M8 from the sleeping lock screen with a double tap to wake up, and a double tap to put to sleep. Utilizing this feature, you can bypass the power button altogether. At this time we don’t know if this is something that is hardware related to the new One or if its simply something that has to do with the new software, but as more details come out we’ll be sure to update you.
