The Chinese manufacturer OPPO has managed to establish as a contender in the tough Android smartphone domain. The offerings from OPPO have so far been impressive, both, in terms of high-end premium specifications along with stunning design. The latest revelations of the OPPO R1S 4G LTE also stand testimony to OPPO’s focus on design. Check out the images of the devices’ back panel below, which reveal the OPPO R1S to be a stunning device, clad in Gorilla Glass 3. The OPPO R1S is an upgraded model to the OPPO R1 which was launched in China, however there is one major change which the OPPO R1S carries – the device brings across 4G LTE connectivity thanks to OPPO making the switch from the Mediatek MT6582 for the OPPO R1 to a Qualcomm MSM8226 processor for the OPPO R1S. All other specifications, hopefully, remain the same as the R1 which was unveiled during the MWC earlier this year.

For a recap, the OPPO R1 (and the OPPO R1S) sports a full Gorilla Glass 3 clad body with a 5 inch 720p HD display screen which offers a 294 ppi pixel density. In terms of processing connectivity options, the device sports dual SIM quad-band GSM and dual-band 3G connectivity. 4G LTE is available on the R1S thanks to the Qualcomm MSM8226 processor, which is clocked at 1.6 GHz with 1 GB of RAM. Internal storage is limited at 16 GB and there is no MicroSD slot available. An 8 mega pixel primary snapper bearing Sony’s top quality sensors is capable of 1080p video recording and exceptional low-light photography, whereas Selfies and the occasional video call will be catered to by a 5 MP secondary front facing camera. The cameras and the Gorilla Glass 3 design are the primary selling points which have seen the OPPO R1 gain a fan following in China. Since the same design features have been copied over to the OPPO R1S, we would assume this phone to perform great as well.

Leaks and rumors suggest the device will go on sale in China soon for a price of 2500 CNY (~$400), however there is no information regarding it’s availability in the western world. On our part, we can only hope, wait and drool over this gorgeous piece of design. Well, more hoping and less drooling. Do shout out if you want to see the OPPO R1S in the US too. Maybe OPPO will listen. Our comments section awaits.

Speed Up Your File Downloading With Download Booster On The Galaxy S5

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

2014-04-11-10-42-23-640x343

By now some of you may be well aware that if you own the Galaxy S5, you can use the included Download Booster feature to help speed up your downloads and make them quicker. That’s the whole idea of this feature anyway isn’t it? The downside for some of you here is that the we have also reported certain Galaxy S5 models wouldn’t be able to use this feature specifically, because it looks like a few carriers have chosen not to support this feature on their network for the time being. While the device just got its official release no more than a few days ago, it’s entirely possible that an update could come along from you carrier that ends up pushing this feature onto your device. For now we’ll direct this at the users whose Galaxy S5 has the Download Booster setting available.

To access the Download Booster and speed up your downloading of files, your first step is making sure that both your mobile network connection and the wifi are enabled, once that’s done you can simply drag down the status bar panel, and Download Booster will be mixed in with the quick toggle buttons at the top, alongside airplane mode, silent mode and others. Tapping that once you have both required connections ready to go, will ensure that your downloads from here on out speed themselves up and ultimately take much less time than if you downloaded them solely on the mobile network data or on wifi alone.

Now we know that not all T-mobile users will have unlimited data, so it would be advantageous for those users to watch their mobile data limits to make sure they don’t hit the throttle cap. For those of you who aren’t a T-mobile customer but own a Galaxy S5(or any device for that matter) and want to get the functionality of the Download Booster, you can do so with an app from the play store called Super Download Fast. The functionality will allow you to use both your mobile data and your wifi connection to download files so that they download quicker. Having used neither feature myself, I can’t give you a fair comparison, but it seems to do the same exact job as Download Booster so you could give it a shot if you were wanting this particular function.

WSJ: Titan Aerospace Now belongs to Google

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

BN-CJ204_DRONE0_F_20140414132745

Google is said to have acquired Titan Aerospace, they are makers of high-altitude, solar powered drones. This is a pretty interesting move, especially since Facebook was looking to pick up Titan Aerospace, and it was looking like we were going to have the two companies competing for internet in the clouds. But it looks like Google beat Facebook to the acquisition. According to Google, Titan Aerospace, will be working with their Project Loon team. For those that are unaware, Project Loon is basically floating balloons that provide internet, and that’s free internet. So we’d essentially have internet everywhere. Which is a great idea, and it looks like Google is getting serious about it this time.

“Google said the Titan team will work closely with Google’s Project Loon, which is building large, high-altitude balloons that send Internet signals to areas of the world that are currently not online. Titan may also work with Makani, another early-stage Google project that is developing an airborne wind turbine that it hopes will generate energy more efficiently.

Titan says its drones will be able to collect real-time, high-resolution images of the earth, carry other atmospheric sensors and support voice and data services. That type of technology could also help other Google businesses, including its Maps division.”

Google hasn’t released any financial details on the deal just yet, but rest assured that this acquisition was not cheap. We’re likely to see Titan Aerospace integrate with other Google products and services as well. Like Google Maps, which is getting better and better. All the while still being the best Maps service around. Apple Maps can’t touch them – they may not even be able to find Google. We’re still awaiting official word from Google, but if WSJ is posting it than it’s most likely true.

How many of you are excited to see what Google does with Titan Aerospace? Be sure to let us know in the comments down below. We’re interested in your opinions.

Google is Expanding in NYC, Looking for Space to House Another 3,000 Employees

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

Google-Pittsburgh-Office-by-Strada-Architects-1

Google already owns a couple of massive office buildings in New York City, but it looks like it’s not enough. According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, the tech giant is on the hunt for more space. Real estate executives who are “familiar with the hunt” state that Google is in talks with several landlords and is trying to lease as much as an additional 600,000 square feet of space in the Big Apple. The office space would be used for more than 3,000 employees to work from.

The physical growth from Google and other tech companies in NYC is indicative of the explosion that the entire technology sector has seen in the past decade. Many of the companies from California like Facebook, Twitter, and Yahoo are establishing footholds in New York and are looking for talented software engineers and other employees that prefer to live on the east coast of the United States.

Google already has over 750,000 square feet of space in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City. This is split between two properties, including a huge building that the company purchased in 2010 for a whopping $1.9 billion. Google’s headquarters in Mountain View, California are much larger than any of its NYC offices, coming in at over 7.3 million square feet of total space. Some of that is leased, some of it is owned. The NYC offices are the Google’s second largest grouping of office space for its employees.

The tech sector can be volatile, and landlords in NYC have to adjust accordingly. The dot-com bubble in the later part of the 1990’s was a booming time for real estate, but when the bubble burst it left landlords with problems. So far, this tech boom is slower and seems more stable than the last one, but these things can be fickle.

Google is growing in more ways than one. We’ll see a slew of new and improved products from them at Google I/O at the end of June, and many more new products and services as the year progresses.

Android How To: Remove the Nano SIM and MicroSD Card on the HTC One (M8)

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

DSC01886

As we’ve stated in the past, our job here at Android Headlines is more than just bringing out the latest and greatest news and rumors relating to Android and even Google – to an extent. But it’s to educate our readers. Which is why we do a ton of How to’s on every flagship device that comes across our desk. Earlier today we did one on how to take a screenshot, which may seem easy, but we get a ton of questions in our inbox about that exact task.

Now we’re going to show you how to insert and remove the Nano SIM and MicroSD card on the HTC One (M8). It’s actually pretty easy, but we also haven’t had a device where you have a tray for the microSD card before. Usually you just pull the back off and stick it in. With the HTC One (M8), the left side has the Nano SIM card tray and the right has the MicroSD card tray. You’ll need to use the SIM card removal tool that HTC includes with the device. Just stick it in until the tray pops out and pull it out. It’s just that simple for both the Nano SIM card and the MicroSD card. Remember that the HTC One (M8) does work with a 128GB microSD card, which right now Sandisk is the only one that has a 128GB microSD card available. Man that’s a lot of storage.

You can check out the video down below for a more detailed how to. There’s only so much some words on a webpage can do, but a video can do so much more. If you have any questions – as usual – be sure to let us know in the comments below.

Android How To: Take a Screenshot on the HTC One (M8)

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

It may seem like a simple task to most of you, but remember we do have new people making their way into the smartphone world and the Android world everyday. So taking a screenshot isn’t as easy as you’d think for many people. Part of our job here at Android Headlines is not just to bring you the latest news and rumors, but to educate you on these devices. They all have a ton of features, whether you think they are gimmicks or not, our job is to show you how to use everything. Which is what a lot of these How to’s are for. This time we’re taking a look at how to take a screenshot on the HTC One (M8).

To take a screenshot on the HTC One (M8), it’s very simple. Hold down the Power and Volume Down buttons together for a few seconds until you see some animation on your screen (as seen in the video below). It’s literally just that simple. Once the screenshot has been taken, you can go ahead and share it from your notification drawer, or view it. To share it, just hit the share button and choose the place you want to share it and you’re all set.

Like I said, it’s not hard to take a screenshot, but some people may not know how to do it. In fact, there are some people still upgrading from Gingerbread phones, which screenshot functionality didn’t exist on those phones. If you have any questions about anything related to the HTC One (M8) be sure to let us know in the comments down below.
