HTC America President Says Sense 6.0 Is Coming To The HTC One Before The End Of May

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

HTC-ONE-REVIEW-17

Now that the HTC One M8 is out and available for purchase, some of you on the older HTC One M7 may be wondering when you’ll be able to get your hands on the UI refresh. I’m talking of course about Sense 6.0, and the answer might be closer than some of you might think. Although maybe not as there hasn’t really been an official lock down on the time yet and rumors were flying around that it could be sooner than it is. According to HTC America President Jason Mackenzie, the HTC One M7 will be getting its official update to Sense 6 sometime before the end of May, so it sounds like it’s hitting just before the beginning of the summer. We’d have thought that it might pop up a little sooner than that ourselves, but often these things take time and HTC wants to make sure things work correctly.

HTC One M7 users may already have KitKat in hand, but they’re still lacking the newer goodness that Sense 6 has to offer, like the updated BlinkFeed widget for the homescreen and dozens of other new features that aim to please. Sense 6 is also said to be a lot lighter and less weighty than the previous version of HTC Sense, which we’re sure our own Alex Maxham and Tom Dawson can attest to. The UI update also looks quite a bit more colorful, so expect an overall better looking experience from HTC One if you run it stock. The news about the update was posted up to Twitter via Jason Mackenzie earlier, so we finally have an official word from someone at HTC. Now if we could just narrow the possibilities down to an exact day? All jokes aside, we’re sure that plenty of old HTC One users will be very happy to have a better idea of when to expect this update to hit.

More information about the timeframe or an exact day is said to be updated on the HTC software update website, so as soon as we know more about the intimate details we’ll update you all here. As of now the software updates page has no information regarding Sense 6 for the One, so we just have to sit tight for now.

We’re sure to see some cool stuff pop up like perhaps something new with the next Android build, and we could see something that has to do with either the Moto 360, the LG G watch or just Android Wear in general. One thing is for certain, it will be an exciting experience with tons of stuff to see and plenty to learn about what’s next for Android and Google. The registration to enter the Google I/O lottery begins tomorrow morning and will end on April 18th, so if you want a shot at going be sure to submit your application before the deadline. As this is a lottery Google will be randomly selecting applicants from the pool of registration submissions, and they’ll notify those people one week after the application submission ends on the 18th. We’ll be on site to make sure you bring the latest information to you as quickly as possible, as we know you’re all just as excited as we are to see what comes next. Office Online Comes To Chrome Through The Web Store

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

Screenshot (572)

Microsoft has updated their suite of Office Online applications today, and not just with some new tweaks and features, as they have also made their most popular office online apps available in the Chrome Web Store. Chrome browser users can now install Word Online, Powerpoint Online, and OneNote Online as one-click accessible web apps from within Chrome, as opposed to using those services through the web portal that was introduced last month. Excel Online will be made available as an installable web app soon, but it is not currently available to install within Chrome.

This means that alongside having all those services available already through Google Docs, users will have another option coming from competitor Microsoft. All four services have gotten some enhancements, which you can dive right into as soon as you install the apps. OneNote Online, now has an easy to use one click printing feature, so that all your notes taken inside OneNote can now be printed out onto a piece of paper, so you can take those notes with you to class or print out those directions you were storing. Word Online is also now more improved, with the ability to edit and change comments at the same time as others. Footnotes and endnotes have also been more simplified.

When it comes to Powerpoint Online, you’ll notice improved performance, while text editing and the Tell Me feature have been added in. Advancement of slides have been sped up, and you can also now play back embedded YouTube videos as well. The text editor has been engineered to make your edits look more like your final revision, so you can have a better idea of how things will look when they’re all said and done. Once the Excel Online web app is available, you’ll be able to insert new comments and delete existing ones. Excel Online now also includes the Tell Me feature like PowerPoint, which allows users to ask the app how to do something and get presented with solutions in a drop down list to perform the actions quickly. If you already use Office Online, you can get the web apps from the Chrome Web Store as of now and start creating documents quicker right from the desktop with the click of a button, meaning no logins.

Glacial Silver HTC One M8 Hits ATT Shelves On April 25th

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

Screenshot (574)

For any of you that have been waiting to get your hands on the Glacial Silver color variant of the HTC One M8, the good news is that AT&T will be carrying the device starting next week. Prior to this launch, the unlocked GSM model and the one carried at Verizon were the only option users here in the US had if they wanted some other than the Gunmetal Grey for HTC’s new smartphone. Thankfully, the exclusivity that VZW had on the alternative color will be over soon, giving AT&T subscribers a chance to pick this up through their carrier at a cheaper cost with a 2-year contract. The phone is slated to head to stores on April 25th, so there isn’t much longer of a wait. The downside here, is that AT&T and Verizon seem to be the only US carriers that will actually sell that particular of the device in store and in their respective websites.

Furthermore, HTC America President Jason Mackenzie has stated that the color options won’t be available through all carriers. While VZW and AT&T seem to have both Gunmetal Grey and Glacial Silver available to them, Sprint customers have Gunmetal Grey, but Sprint is also the only carrier who is reportedly going to have the Amber Gold option as long as those Sprint customers purchase their device through Best Buy stores. Most disappointing of all for some, is that T-Mobile will only be carrying the gunmetal Grey option, although as stated above the Glacial Silver HTC One M8 is available unlocked which can be picked up at Amazon. In addition, if you use T-Mobile or any other GSM carrier, the unlocked HTC One M8 in all three colors can be purchased directly from HTC themselves.

There has also been mention of two new colors entering the mix, and that a Stealth Black and Stealth Red version of the HTC One M8 would be making their way to shelves in the near future, with rumors that a Glamour Red would be heading to Verizon. The Stealth Red and Glamour Red could potentially be the same color and if so, whether or not the color option would be exclusive to Verizon is unconfirmed.

MediaTek Unveils More Details About The MT6595 With LTE Integration

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

MediaTek

MediaTek is showing off its MT6595 chipset at the China Electronic Infromation Expo, in all it’s integrated-LTE glory. We first hear about this chip back in February, but MediaTek is giving us some more details. The MT6595 is built on a big.LITTLE architecture and has integrated LTE support, making it easier than ever for manufacturers to bring high-speed LTE to us all. When the company first announced the MT6595 chipset, they didn’t provide us with much in the way of info about it, just that it was on it’s way to us. Now we know all about it after MediaTek showed it off in China last week.

The MT6595 is designed to compete with Qualcomm’s Snapddragon 800 and 805 chipsets. MediaTek is stepping their game up, bringing us a high-end chipset aimed at high-end LTE smartphones and tablets. It’s a “true octa-core” chip in that it’s capable of running all eight of its cores at the same time. It has four new Cortex-A17 cores clocked at 2.2 GHz, and four 1.7GHz A7 cores. Like we mentioned, it’s using ARM’s big.LITTLE architecture and should offer a performance boost of up to 60% over the older Cortex-A9. It boasts a PowerVR G6200 GPU and will support up to a 20-megapixel camera. The MT6595 will also offer 2K4K video recording and video playback, and supports H.265 video too. MediaTek is even claiming that its new MT6595 octa-core SoC will be faster and much more power efficient than Samsung’s current Exynos options. MediaTek is claiming that this is the first octa-core chipset that offers onboard LTE support with its TD-LTE/FDD-LTE/WCDMA/TD-SCDMA/GSM modem.

While MediaTek is stating that this chip can compete with the biggest and the best, they are also aiming at a different market. The MT6595 doesn’t have 64-bit support, only using 32-bit cores. The company wants to hang with the big dogs, but isn’t quite there yet. As the future moves to 64-bit computing, the MT6595 won’t be able to stay current. However, costs will be lower and this new SoC from MediaTek will offer high performance for a more affordable price.

Google Applies For A Smart Contact Lens Patent Containing A Micro Camera

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

6a0168e68320b0970c01a73da8bc45970d

A new patent filed by Google over at patent bolt reveals that the search company is looking into embedding a tiny micro sized camera, into the smart contact lens that we had previously heard some talk about. A smart contact lens would be a far cry from the other head worn smart device that Google develops known as Google Glass, but that doesn’t make it any less interesting. Before we break out the pitchforks and start to rally that Google is developing another reason for users to be worried about privacy concerns, the idea of this is to help enhance quality of life. One amazing example is helping visually impaired people.

When you think about it, the possibilities about what could be done with a device like this are virtually endless, just like businesses are finding new ways to implement Glass as part of Google’s Glass for Work program, these smart contact lenses with a micro camera inside could help benefit people in a number of ways from a health standpoint. Short of informing a person who is visually impaired when it might be safe to cross the street(of course this would most likely have to work in tandem with another device like a paired smartphone)it could help people to see more clearly and at longer distances.

The patent states that the micro camera within the smart contact lens could basically track a wearers gaze, and follow the shift in gaze as the wearer looks in other directions. Following the gaze of the wearer allows for the smart contact lens to track and process image data of whatever the wearer sees, processing things like light, colors, patterns of colors, faces, motion and more. We know that sounds a little futuristic, but then again this wouldn’t be the first device coming out of Google that has this type of feeling to it. They also have development going on plenty of other projects that seem ahead of their time, like the self driving car and other advanced robotics, as well cool stuff like project loon which basically wants to see a mesh of internet connectivity over wide areas through essentially, wifi balloons.

Pressy Hoping To Ship By End Of April To Reach Mid May Delivery For Backers

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

Pressy asks us to save the delivery date, because they want us to be prepared for when the almighty button is ready to make its way out to backers and hit retail for all others to purchase. After a short visit to the production line of the little Pressy, they not only deduced that they should be able to manufacture over 40,000 buttons within the next two weeks, but they are hoping to begin the shipping process by the 28th of this month. If shipping of the units actually begins on time, than users who backed the kickstarter campaign should end up getting their shipments sometime in mid-may.

Although the kickstarter production got held back, things seem to be moving along smoothly now, and the Pressy team has even been able to upgrade the design of the holster that stores your little Pressy button, so that it can be stored on your keychain or be snugly fit on the wire of your headphones. Both seem like great places to keep it when not in use, and practical at that. To those who may have backed the kickstarter and might have a need for any changes in the shipment, like address in case you moved or might have the need or want to include any add-ons at a special price, the Pressy’s creator Nimrod Back has said that the survey that has been sent out to figure what changes people had if any would be locked down soon. In fact the day will be April 17th, and he also made note that some kickstarters may have missed the survey and will be getting another one via email here shortly. You can use the survey to update any important details for the shipment.

As some of you might already know Pressy has had a little bit of competition when it comes to this tiny device that plugs into your 3.5mm audio port, but they are prepared to deal with in court if needed. Pressy says that copycats were expected from the beginning and that they have a patent to help them cover their bases and squash the copycats. Pressy will cost $27 when it becomes available for purchase, would you see yourself buying one of these to have an extra button to do things?
