Google Is No Longer Accepting Glass Explorers At This Time

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

googleglass

If you didn’t grab a set of Google Glass yesterday there is nothing to worry about as it won’t be anyone’s last opportunity to do so. You cannot however go and purchase Glass at the time as the ability for anyone in the U.S. to snatch a pair was only a one day things and well… that was yesterday. You can still sign up for potential future opportunities though and will receive any upcoming notifications that Google sends out about the updates to Glass if you do. Since Google Glass was available for the first time to anyone in the general public(U.S. only of course as stated above)without having the need for an invite, there were plenty of people grabbing their very own pair. While there is still likely plenty of units at Google’s disposal, at least one of the colors ended up out of stock yesterday which was the Cotton color.

Now that the buying option is closed, for now there is no more opportunity to purchase Glass until Google gives the go ahead, which could be through more invites into the Explorer program down the road. There are rumors that we might see some more of Google Glass at the annual Google Developers Conference this year in June, but who knows if they plan to just show off some more of what it can do or merely bring it up in conversation. It could also not come up at all. There is plenty of Good and Bad about Google Glass from the public’s perspective, so now that many people got an opportunity to pick up a pair of their own, we suspect that a lot of that negative attention could die down compared to when it was only available through invites.

With yesterdays Glass for anyone campaign a success, this means that Google Glass will end up in many more hands and there will be even more that it can do in the future. We hope to see lots more cool apps pop up and can’t wait to see where things go with the wearable tech in the near future, as it’s already going through some exciting changes.

Vivo Xshot Allegedly Appears In Leaked Image

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

Vivo-Xshot-24MP-rear-camera-0

Yesterday we saw some image leaks via Weibo that outted the possibility of the Vivo Xshot smartphone carrying a Sony manufactured camera with Exmor RS technology inside. These teasers were posted on the Vivo Weibo account. Today it seems that some random person has uploaded an image and leaked it out to the web of what the Vivo Xshot looks like. The image leak doesn’t appear to have come from Weibo themselves, so it’s a safe bet it really is a leak. This shouldn’t be too surprising as we see leaked images of devices like this on Weibo often.

The image displays the phone from the back, which is pretty bare except for the Vivo branding and the camera near the top, which sits in the center with the dual LED flash just to the left of it. This is supposedly the very first legitimate image of the Vivo Xshot that has leaked where we actually get to see the form factor of the phone. You can see what looks to probably be the power button on the side near the top, but on the bottom there is another button that looks like the round dedicated camera button that was teased in yesterdays photos along with the information about the Sony camera tech inside the device. The idea of a dedicated camera key is always nice, and ensures a quick access to the camera no matter where you are on your device or what you’re doing with it.

Whether or not this actually is the Vivo Xshot in all its glory is unconfirmed, it doesn’t look too bad if it is though. The Xshot is expected to be a fairly high end device just like their last release, the Vivo Xplay3s, except this one will most likely have a tighter focus on giving a better camera experience from the sounds of things. The image appears to support the phone having metal edges surrounding the device as displayed in the teaser image as well, but we won’t know for sure until Vivo themselves gives a few more details and displays the phone.

Video Overview of the Google Camera for Most Android Devices

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

DSC02060

Today, Google put out their own camera for just about every Android device out there. There were a few devices that were not working with the camera according to the Play Store, but for the most part its available to everyone. The camera app gives us a bit of a sneak peak into what the new design from Google is. Which we’ve been seeing leak out recently for different apps like Google+, Gmail and the Google Calendar. We’ve been messing around with the camera on various devices for a few hours now and are ready to do a complete overview of the app. For the most part it’s pretty easy to use. Swipe in from the left and you have your different modes. That’s Photosphere, Panorama, Lens Blur, camera and video. Most of those are self-explanatory, but the lens blur allows you to blur the background, much like you can on a DSLR, the Sony Xperia Z1, Xperia Z2, Samsung Galaxy S5 and the HTC One (M8). In the settings you can change the resolution of the camera, both front and back cameras, as well as adjust and turn on the white balance and a few other items.

We’ve got the full overview down below, for those that are interested. You can download the Google camera from the Play Store right now. It’s a pretty nice looking app, but I still think the stock G2 camera is a bit better. If you want to see a comparison between the two, check out my post on Google+, here.

How many of you love the new camera app from Google? We should now see more updates to the camera since the app is in Google Play and works with most Android devices. It’s going to be interesting to see what Google does with it.

Google’s Q1 Earnings: $15.4 Billion in Revenue, 19% increase Year-Over-Year

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

Google HQ Amsterdam 1

Google is posting their earnings right now for Q1 which ran from January 1st to April 1st 2014. They pulled in $15.4 billion in the first quarter alone, which is a 19% increase over the Q1 2013 results. They also raked in about $4.12 billion in profits. That’s 27% of their revenue. It is an increase in raw profit over last year, it is a decrease in the percentage of revenue that the profit makes up. In Q1 2013 it was 29%.

Google’s CEO talked about the results for this quarter and was very pleased with the results, but then again what CEO wouldn’t be?

“We completed another great quarter. Google’s revenue was $15.4 billion, up 19% year on year. We got lots of product improvements done, especially on mobile. I’m also excited with progress on our emerging businesses.”

Site revenues were at $10.47 billion, which is about 67% of their entire revenue for the quarter. Compared to last year which saw a 21% share of the revenue. So that’s a rather large jump in site revenue. Which is a good thing. Google’s advertising on other sites brought in about $3.4 billion, which is also up year over year. Google advertising on other sites was about 22% of their revenues. Other revenues are sitting at $1.55 billion, that’s about 10% of their revenue.

Google is doing their conference call at 4:30pm ET/1:30pm PT today, so for those interested in hearing what Google has to say, be sure to check in on their Investors site. We’re not likely to hear from Larry Page on the earnings call since he did say he wouldn’t be on the earnings call anymore. But we may hear from Eric Schmidt, who always says some great things.

What does everyone think about Google’s earnings for Q1? Guess Motorola’s losses didn’t really hurt them much after all. That’s a great thing for both companies. We should be hearing about Motorola’s earnings soon, since Google does technically still own them. Until the deal is final with Lenovo.

Best Poker Apps on Android For the Casual Gamer

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

Poker Chips Online

Mobile technology has become one of the main gaming platforms on the market today. A new app is literally born every minute and on Androlib you can see the figure increase every second with its running counter on creating of apps to the market. While some of the most popular games on mobile are from successful RPG console titles, the majority of casual gamers still prefer short games they can pause or exit midway. One of their first go to games is poker.

Zynga Poker – Texas Holdem

Zynga is one of the biggest names in free poker because of the slew of games it introduced to Facebook. Social games that let you send gifts in the form of poker chips ensures that any player can come back after a huge loss and start from scratch. The interface is easy and it lets you play with Facebook friends. Zynga also ventured into real money poker in the United Kingdom back in 2013 with the help of Bwin.party, making their poker title one of the most endearing games in their repertoire.

Partypoker

The partypoker android app is one of the few poker apps that lets you experience what it’s really like to be in a live poker match. While other apps will have a flourish of flushes, straights and full houses, this game is, by far, the most realistic in terms of poker odds. Why would anyone want that you say? It’s the perfect training ground for any fledgling professionals. On top of this, it allows you to qualify for real poker tournaments; no less than the WPT! Since the app isn’t exactly a social game, once you lose all your play money, you won’t be able to play for free again.

World Series of Poker – WSOP

If the Partypoker app gives you the chance to qualify for the WPT, this one gives you the chance to win a trip to Las Vegas for the WSOP and pays for your $10,000 entry ticket. Making the transition from online poker to real live play is a dream shared by millions ever since the Moneymaker effect. Despite several bugs, it’s one of the very few legit poker games out there. Be sure to have a solid internet connection for this game as it’s notorious for kicking you out during really crucial moments.

Poker games are unique from other casual games in the sense that it can be a form of investment that actually pays off. Let’s face it, no matter how many insurgents you bring down in Call of Duty, you will never get a ticket to enter the army, ever. When choosing an app to download and load real money, make sure that you’re playing against people and not bots. The more real-life the experience, the better.

AIO Starts Group Save, A Framily Plan Like Savings For Customers

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

Aio Wireless Logo

Keeping the savings all in the framily is something that customers of AIO wireless will soon be able to take advantage of. AIO is changing up their plans just a little bit, or rather just adding in some new savings for customers that allows them to save money for the more people they have on the account. It works in a similar way to the Sprint Framily savings deals, which saves customers a certain amount of money off for every line they have added into the Framily, up to a total of $30 off per line. The AIO version of the savings instead just gives customers a certain amount based off of the number of people that are on the plan. It sounds confusing, and it can be, but it’s actually pretty simple and straightforward.

The Framily Plan savings at Sprint gives you $5 off for every line you have added into the Framily, and equals up to a per line savings with a maximum amount of $30 per line. The AIO Group Save plan as they’re calling it, just gives the customer a set amount off for the number of lines they have on the plan. So if you have 1 line on the plan you get a $0 savings, but once you bump up to 2 lines you get $10 off, and it continues on until you reach 5 lines.

As stated above you get $0 off for having 1 line. 2 lines gets you a $10 savings, 3 lines gets you a $30 savings, 4 lines gets you a $60 savings, and maxing out the plan with 5 lines gets you a $90 savings total. So the savings here is obviously meant to offer a similar type of deal as Sprint, but AIO wireless is primarily a prepaid service so the plans themselves will obviously be a little different. The savings on the other hand is to the point, stating that if you have this many lines you will save this much total on the plan, instead of breaking things up into a per line savings. According to AIO if your plan is not delinquent in any way, you’ll automatically begin getting the savings on the plans if you have more than one line.
