Apple Highlights Women's Entrepreneur Camp, Applications for 2020 Session Open Until November 15

https://ift.tt/2Pd8Hsc

Today marks the completion of Apple Entrepreneur Camp's first year. Apple designed the program to help female entrepreneurs with developing apps, with the camp offering hands-on technology labs, one-on-one guidance from Apple employees, mentorship from Apple leadership, and ongoing support.

In a press release, Apple says the first year of the Entrepreneur Camp saw female leaders and their teams from 42 companies take part. Apple engineers worked directly with participants on topics including app development, design, machine learning, augmented reality and, if desired, tips for public relations and marketing. Participants are also invited to attend Apple's annual developers conference WWDC.

Esther Hare, Apple's senior director of Worldwide Developer Marketing and executive sponsor of Women@Apple:
I'm in awe of the passion and drive of our first year of Entrepreneur Camp innovators. They are using apps to impact peoples' lives and solve problems, from building connections for underrepresented groups in tech to making solar power affordable and giving people tools to improve mental health. It's great to hear incredible women leaders telling us their experience at Camp has helped them make their apps even better, and given them the confidence and the tools to build new connections, form support networks and raise rounds of venture capital. And we're just getting started.
Ketaki Shriram, chief technical officer of Krikey, Inc:
Working directly with the Apple team, we got feedback on design methodology that helped us solve a problem in our app we knew we had, but had no idea how to fix. We made some significant improvements based on what we learned, including adding a preview mode so players can try the game before they sign up. That's been really successful for us.
The next Apple Entrepreneur Camp is planned for January 28 to February 5, 2020, and applications will be accepted until November 15 on Apple's website.

Deals Spotlight: Amazon Discounts 9.7-Inch iPad and 10.2-Inch iPad to Lowest-Ever Prices (Up to $160 Off)

https://ift.tt/2UWldg1

Anyone on the hunt for an iPad this week is in luck, thanks to Amazon's latest discounts on both the 2018 9.7-inch iPad and the 2019 10.2-inch iPad. The retailer has marked down all of the cellular versions of the former tablet, while sales on the latter device are focused on Wi-Fi only models.

9.7-Inch iPad

Amazon has both the 32GB and 128GB 9.7-inch iPad with cellular support in all color options. Shoppers should note that the 128GB Space Gray iPad is the cheapest 128GB model in this sale at $399.00, but all of the colors for the 32GB size are the same price.

Note: MacRumors is an affiliate partner with Amazon. When you click a link and make a purchase, we may receive a small payment, which helps us keep the site running.

Because of its lower price, stock for the 128GB Space Gray iPad is limited and it won't ship until around October 29. Across the board, these are the lowest prices we've tracked for the previous-generation iPad.

10.2-Inch iPad

Those on the hunt for the latest iPad can still save a bit of money thanks to Amazon's $29 discount on the Wi-Fi only models of the 128GB 10.2-inch iPad. All colors are also on sale here, priced at $399.99.

Apple's Push Into Hollywood Detailed in Businessweek Feature Ahead of Apple TV+ Launch

https://ift.tt/31pPaXT

Ahead of the launch of Apple TV+ on November 1, Bloomberg Businessweek has explored Apple's foray into original content in a feature titled "The One Where Apple Tried to Buy Its Way Into Hollywood."

Many of the the reported details are already known, ranging from some Hollywood executives frowning upon Apple's culture of secrecy to Apple spending over $250 million on the ‌Apple TV‌+ series "The Morning Show," including over $1 million per episode for stars Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon.

In its early discussions about scripted programming, Apple also reportedly considered a project involving actor Keanu Reeves, known for his roles in movies like "The Matrix," "John Wick," and "Speed."

‌Apple TV‌+ is Apple's upcoming subscription-based streaming video service, launching November 1 in over 100 countries. The service will be available on the ‌Apple TV‌ app on iPhone, iPad, ‌Apple TV‌, Mac, and other platforms, including online at tv.apple.com, for $4.99 per month with a seven-day free trial.

‌Apple TV‌+ is led by former Sony Pictures Television executives Jamie Erlicht and Zack Van Amburg, who have reportedly been tasked with securing original content that is appropriate to be previewed in Apple's retail stores around the world, although it seems there will be some exceptions to that rule.

‌Apple TV‌+ will debut with the aforementioned "The Morning Show," which also stars Steve Carell, as well as the post-apocalyptic thriller "See" starring Jason Momoa, coming-of-age comedy series "Dickinson" starring Hailee Steinfeld, kids shows "Snoopy in Space" and "Helpsters," and more.

Since September 10, customers who purchase any iPhone, ‌iPad‌, ‌Apple TV‌, iPod touch, or Mac can get one year of ‌Apple TV‌+ for free.
