via AndroidHeadlines.com |

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 was Samsung’s way of trying to compete in the lower-end market. Which the Galaxy Tab 3 10-inch is normally $400, however it’s on sale today for $329. So that’s about 18% off, for those looking for a nice 10-inch tablet. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 comes with an Intel Atom Z2560 processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage with a microSD card slot, 3MP camera on the back, 1.3MP front-facing shooter and comes with Android 4.2 – Jelly Bean. Which it should be seeing an update to Android 4.4 very soon. At least we hope it does.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 is available in both black and white from Amazon for $329 right now. It’s available with Amazon Prime’s free two-day shipping. It also comes with 50GB of Dropbox storage for those that love using Dropbox, like myself. Now it’s not going to measure up to the Galaxy TabPRO 10.1 which Samsung just released but it is a pretty good tablet for the money. Especially if you’re not a tech fan like most of us here at Android Headlines who want top-of-the-line everything in our tablets.

For those interested in a new tablet from Samsung, you can’t go wrong with the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1-inch, and you can buy it in black or white from the links down below.

Sprint Chairman Says US Internet Speeds are “Horrible” And He’s Fixing It

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

webMasayoshi-Son.1

From recent studies, we know that the internet speeds here in the US aren’t the fastest, in fact they are some of the slowest in the world. While we have some of the highest wireless bills in the world. Masayoshi Son has stated that he is working to fix that, at least on Sprint. Re/Code interviewed the Sprint Chairman in Washington DC today where Son bashed the internet service that’s currently available here, and stated it was “horrible”. Basically saying it’s way too slow and way too costly. He also admitted that Sprint’s internet speeds are pretty bad as well, which is partially why they are #3 right now.

However, Son said he could fix that. As long as the Obama administration would allow Sprint to merge with #4 wireless carrier, T-Mobile. Son stated that with such a merger, it would allow the combined company to gain enough scale to install new technology nationally that he claimed would offer speeds up to 10x current levels in households. Now this isn’t the first time Son has said this. He recently was interviewed by Forbes, in which he also stated that he wants to bring the 700MBPS speeds available in Japan over to the US.

Son was in Washington this week, as part of a campaign to build support for this merger, which Son has stressed that nothing has been agreed to yet. His aim was to argue that by providing faster, cheaper service to homes and mobile devices, any merged entity wouldn’t only be competing with AT&T and Verizon, but also cable and landline companies like Comcast, Time Warner and others. Which Comcast is waiting on approval to buy Time Warner right now, and if that goes through it’d be like Verizon buying AT&T. It shouldn’t happen.

I’m sure I’m not the only one that would love to see 700MBPS networks here in the US, especially for less than what we are paying now. And if the FCC allows Sprint to buy T-Mobile, hopefully we see some changes really quick, as both networks are not the strongest, and have their disadvantages.

450,000 Pre-Orders for the HTC Desire 816 in Three Days in China

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

HTC_Desire_816_AllColors

HTC announced a pair of mid-range devices at Mobile World Congress last month. One of them was the Desire 816, which is actually a really nice looking smartphone and features BoomSound. We’re hearing today that in China in just three days, HTC has received nearly half a million pre-orders for the HTC Desire 816. Which is a low number for most OEMs, but for HTC that’s a great number. And at this rate, it’s probably passed the 500,000 mark by the time you read this post.

Due to the great response for the Desire 816 and its pre-orders, HTC’s shares went up over 3% yesterday alone. Which is great news for HTC. So maybe this is where HTC really needs to focus now, on the mid-range market? Because they make great devices, and obviously people are loving the HTC Desire 816.

The Desire 816 has a 5.5-inch 720p HD display, 13MP camera on the back with a LED flash, 5MP front-facing camera, 1.6GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage with a microSD card slot, 4G LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, and dual-front facing speakers for BoomSound. It also has a 2600mAh battery inside, and it’s just 7.9mm thin and weighs just 165 grams. It should be expanding to other regions in April, and hopefully HTC will see the same response in other regions as they are seeing in China.

We don’t know what other regions we are going to see the HTC Desire 816 available in, but hopefully we’ll learn more very soon. I doubt that it’ll come to the US, except for maybe on prepaid carriers like Boost Mobile, Virgin, etc. Hopefully we’ll see it available unlocked in the US pretty soon. As it would make a great device for a lot of people that aren’t as big tech fans as most of us.

Samsung Explains ISOCELL in New Video

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

Samsung_ISOCELL_4566-630x347

Samsung announced ISOCELL back in September of last year. ISOCELL is an advanced pixel technology for Smartphones and tablets. The Galaxy S5 does feature ISOCELL as expected, and it should improve the quality of your pictures dramatically. Samsung has now released a new video about how ISOCELL works on your Galaxy S5.

ISOCELL attempts to do what every manufacturer wants to do. Which is better low light performance, which HTC kinda perfected with the UltraPixel camera last year, it’s just too bad that it was only 4-megapixels. “ISOCELL pixels decrease crosstalk between neighboring cells by forming minute barriers between neighboring pixels to increase light sensitivity and control electron collection resulting in higher color fidelity, even in poor lighting conditions.”

Samsung was bragging on stage at Mobile World Congress about how the Galaxy S5 has the best camera on a smartphone right now. Which I’m not doubting them, mostly because I haven’t gotten my hands on the Galaxy S5 yet, but then again the cameras out there especially on Android smartphones it’s not that hard to beat them all. However, I’d love to see a shoot out between the Sony Xperia Z1s, LG G2 and the Galaxy S5. Those all have great cameras. Samsung also added some new features to the Camera app on the Galaxy S5. It’s also redesigned, it looks more like the camera app on the Galaxy S3 and Note 2, which several people liked better than the app on the Galaxy S4 and Note 3. Which makes sense, as it has a lot less animations and it’s much easier to change the options.

On April 11th, we should see just how good the Galaxy S5 is. As always, once we get our review unit we’re going to be covering the Galaxy S5 in-depth, going over each folder as well. So you’ll want to be sure you stay tuned to Android Headlines for that.

Apple and Samsung Don’t have the Appeal They Used to with Ads in the US

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

screen-shot-2014-03-11-at-3.07.09-pm

There was a time where Apple and Samsung had the most appealing ads out there, which is why they were so popular and had such a huge market share. But according to a new report out of Ace Metrix, it appears that they both have fallen, and Amazon and LG have taken the top spots. What’s interesting though, is that LG went from #6 in 2012 to #2 in 2013. That’s a pretty big jump. While Samsung dropped from #3 to #4 and Apple dropped from #1 to #5, so they are just ahead of HTC – which I can’t remember that last time I saw a commercial from HTC. And judginh by the average score, there’s only 25 points between Amazon (#1) and Apple (#5).

It’s nice to see other OEMs starting to take marketing seriously. As that’s the big reason why Samsung and Apple are so huge, and I’ve been saying for a while that I’d like to see another OEM be as large as they are. Simply because I want to see more competition, especially in the Android space. And it looks like LG is going to be that competitor. They really stepped up in 2013. While we were hoping HTC would step up as well, they actually dropped from #5 to #6, so I don’t have high hopes for them in 2014.

Considering the budget that Samsung has for marketing their devices, it’s actually surprising to see them sitting at #4. They probably have the biggest marketing budget out of everyone, yes even Apple. They spent over $2 billion in 2013, compared to Amazon’s $147.8 million. Maybe we’ll see Samsung go back to the Samsunged ads. I actually really enjoyed those ads, and we recently saw Samsung go back to that theme with the Galaxy NotePRO 12.2 commercial.

Are any of you surprised at these results? With Amazon and LG taking the top spots? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

‘Performance Boosting Thing’ Coming to Future Android Versions

via AndroidHeadlines.com |

android 4.3 and 4.4 plans

Google’s Android open source ecosystem is undeniably one such platform which actively engages end-users for submitting bug reports for the betterment of future releases. However, at times the end-user might not be technical enough or coherent enough to actually clearly state the cause of his distress. Even in such cases, it is heartening to see Google taking a positive step in identifying and acknowledging the issue. The Android Open Source Issue Tracker is open for all Android users to post their issues and bugs, and though we don’t normally concern ourselves with the issue tracker, this time we are making an exception. The exact text of the concern is reproduced below:

“my feature request is about performance.i have used many of the android versioned mobile phone and tabs. in all that i noticed about the performance factor.can u guyz add some performace boosting thing on the next version or any update to existing. i want to open 10+ apps, active few ones and mostly inactive.when 5+ apps of size about 2gb its starts hanging or slowing down the running speed.can u make some redesign or something that will increase the performance using lesser ram use.”

The poster of the concern has had difficulties in articulating himself, that is a given, and undeniably the phrase “performance boosting thing” definitely catches attention. However, the concern is legitimate by all means. As owners of Android smartphone devices, it is our right to demand that the OS performs as per the user and not vice versa. It is a fact that if you open too many games or apps simultaneously the device does either heat up or develops a lag. It is also true that Google has been proactive in ensuring end-user comfort, as evidenced by the innovations and optimizations brought in by Project Butter in Jelly Bean and then Project Svelte in Kitkat.

The time is now right for Android to be taken up to the next level, where Project Svelte gets upgraded to Project Ripped and lag becomes a thing of history – something which is remembered, but never experienced. The best aspect of this report definitely Google’s response, wherein on the same day this issue was reported, Google has tagged the issue as ‘Medium Priority’ for a future Android release. Thanks to the poster, we may finally get to see an Android version in which we could run all apps simultaneously without any potential system slowdowns.
